Chris Brown Deactivates Instagram
Chris Brownhas deactivated his Instagram account following criticism that he is a “colourist” for allegedly showing preference to lighter-skinned Black women. Before deactivating his account on Tuesday, September 16, the Grammy-winning artist shared a photo of his onstage dance with media personality Kayla Nicole. Nicole, formerly in a relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce, performed a suggestive dance with Brown to his song “Take You Down” during the Los Angeles performance of his Breezy Bowl XX Tour.
In a performance recap, Kayla stated, “I dedicated it to the intelligent, stylish, attractive, and engaging women—to all of us who embody these qualities simultaneously. And I especially dedicated it to women of colour. “Thank you.” Brown initially responded to Kayla’s statement about “women of colour” with an Instagram story, saying, “I’m not interested in colourist rhetoric.” However, the singer later deactivated his Instagram account, seemingly reversing his decision to share the message publicly.
